So, it's been a few months since my last post, and the frequency of my posting before was a little short of what I would like...therefore I feel I should keep better tabs on how much I'm blogging about my great experiences during Student Teaching.
I've been in my class for what will be a week tomorrow and I absolutely love it. I previously volunteered at the same school, and the difference in student attitude and behavior over the last 3 years is astounding. The students are nothing short of respectful, and make me smile constantly: teaching is definitely the right fit for me!
However, others have a negative attitude towards these students that have been afflicted by a common notion that they are "bad kids" or their school is a "bad school". It's only as bad as we're making it; and it's not that bad!! I wish I could know every student 1,000 times better than I already do, and that I could be here for so much longer than I will be. It seems like my time there is already coming to a close knowing that it's only a few short months away. I'm very excited about the memories, connections, and growing that is going to occur this semester! I was asked today what success for my Student Teaching experience would be, and that's a difficult question, I want it all!!! But more realistically, I want to try new things in front of the class: present material in a way I'm unfamiliar with, let students take more control of their own learning, make connections with students, and most of all have fun-the basis of which will be when my students are comfortable with me, which starts when I show them that I am comfortable with them and I want to know them better!
Exams and reviews have been and will be the rest of my first two weeks, but I'm sure there will be plenty of stories and growth! Until next time, just remember that those around you are influenced by the decisions you make for yourself, and the attitude that you have: whether you openly express that attitude or not.
